Biography

Biography

Hi! I’m Laura Evans, born on December 3, 1980. As a dedicated mathematics educator, my journey in the world of numbers and logic has been both challenging and immensely rewarding. Growing up in Ithaca, New York, I was always fascinated by the beauty and precision of mathematics.

I pursued my undergraduate degree in Mathematics at Cornell University. This experience deepened my appreciation for the subject and exposed me to a diverse range of mathematical theories and applications. Following this, I obtained my Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from Harvard University, where I focused on innovative teaching methods and curriculum development in mathematics.

My teaching philosophy revolves around making mathematics accessible and enjoyable. I believe that everyone has the potential to understand and appreciate math, and it’s my job to facilitate that understanding. My approach in the classroom combines traditional methodologies with creative problem-solving techniques, encouraging students to think critically and independently.

My expertise lies in advanced algebra, calculus, and applied mathematics. I have a passion for showing students the real-world applications of mathematical concepts, bridging the gap between theory and practice. This approach not only makes the subject more relatable but also inspires students to explore mathematics beyond the classroom.

In addition to teaching, I have been actively involved in mathematics education research. My work has been published in several academic journals, contributing to the discourse on effective math teaching strategies. I also regularly participate in educational conferences, staying abreast of the latest developments in the field and continually refining my teaching practices.

One of my notable achievements has been the development of a mentorship program for young women in mathematics, aimed at encouraging more female students to pursue STEM fields. This program has seen great success and has become a model for similar initiatives.

For me, teaching math is not just a profession; it’s a way of sharing my love for the subject and helping

students discover the joy and power of mathematics in their lives. I am committed to creating an engaging and supportive learning environment where students are challenged and inspired. My goal is to not only teach mathematical concepts but to foster a lifelong appreciation for the subject.

Throughout my teaching career, the most rewarding moments have been witnessing the ‘aha’ moments of my students – when a challenging concept suddenly makes sense. It’s these moments that remind me of the transformative impact of education.

I continue to learn and grow as an educator, always looking for new ways to enhance my teaching and reach students more effectively. Mathematics is a dynamic and ever-evolving field, and as a teacher, I am dedicated to evolving with it, bringing the best of my knowledge and enthusiasm to the classroom every day.
