Hello, I’m Jonathan Carter, and I’ve been devotedly teaching English Literature at Lexington Literature Academy since September 2008. My journey into the realm of literature began in the historic city of Boston, born on May 11, 1974. This city’s rich literary tradition inspired my early fascination with the written word.
I pursued my undergraduate studies in English at Harvard University, where I delved into the depths of both classic and contemporary literature. My time at Harvard wasn’t just about academic excellence; it was an exploration into the transformative power of literature. I further honed my skills and understanding by completing my Master’s in English Literature at Yale University, focusing on literary criticism and pedagogy.
At Lexington Literature Academy, I lead the English department, where my passion is not just teaching literature but opening windows to new worlds and perspectives for my students. My teaching philosophy centers on the belief that literature is a mirror reflecting society, culture, and history.
My expertise in teaching ranges from Shakespearean drama to modern American literature, always emphasizing critical thinking and analytical skills. I encourage my students to see literature not just as texts to be studied but as living dialogues to be engaged with.
Beyond the classroom, I’ve been involved in curriculum development, focusing on integrating diverse literary voices and perspectives. I’ve also contributed articles to various educational journals, sharing my insights on teaching literature in a way that is both engaging and enlightening.
One of my key achievements at Lexington has been the establishment of an annual literature festival that brings together authors, scholars, and students. This event has become a platform for vibrant discussions, workshops, and the celebration of literature in all its forms.
In my 16 years of teaching, the most rewarding aspect has been witnessing my students develop a love for literature that goes beyond the classroom. It’s about nurturing not just academic proficiency but a lifelong appreciation for the power of words.
As I continue on this journey, my commitment remains strong – to inspire, educate, and instill a deep respect for the rich tapestry of English literature in every student that walks into my classroom.
